James Lambert scored through the air and on the ground as Gunn defeated visiting Saratoga 49-0 in its SCVAL El Camino Division football opener Friday night.

The Titans (4-1, 1-0) have accumulated 203 points over their last four games. They earned their first shutout of the season against Saratoga.

Gunn travels to play Los Altos next Friday at 7 p.m. The Eagles (2-2, 1-0) saw their luck change in a 34-6 victory over host Monta Vista.

Los Altos had two of its first four games canceled or postponed. It got a little scary when the school received a bomb threat Friday.

Fortunately, the football game was scheduled for Monta Vista and Los Altos came to play.

Meanwhile, back in Titan territory, Noah Panousis got into the act in a big way, scoring on a 52-yard pass from Lambert, who attempted two passes all game.

Filippi Montes IV rushed for a team high 154 yards, scored three touchdowns and recorded a sack. Kevin Green, who rushed for 76 yards, also scored. Finnlee Montes rushed for another 57 yards.

Gunn’s defense recorded nine other tackles for a loss, led by Eric Wang with three. Angel Galicia and Denzel Davis each recorded a pair.

St. Francis 37, at Sacred Heart Cathedral 13

Viliami Teu and Camilo Arquette each rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Saint Francis improved to 2-0 in league play, 4-0 overall, with the win at Kezar Stadium.

Teu scored on runs of 30 and 29 yards in the first quarter. The Lancers also recorded a safety and led 16-0 after one quarter.

The Irish scored twice to draw within 16-13 after three quarters. The fourth quarter belonged to Saint Francis.

Arquette scored on runs of 2 and 17 yards. Kamau Julien raced 56 yards for the final score.

Matthew Karic was 5-of-5 on PATs.

Sequoia 27, Mills 0

Jaymason Howard did his thing on both sides of the ball to help Sequoia open its league schedule with a victory.

Howard scored the game’s first touchdown in the second quarter and then helped keep Mills off the scoreboard with an interception late in the first half.

Sequoia (2-3, 1-0) hosts San Mateo (5-0, 1-0) in a division contest next Friday. San Mateo beat Woodside 21-7 on Friday.

In 8-man football, Pinewood beat Anzar, 50-6, and Priory topped Harker 44-38. Both teams are undefeated on the season.

Tommy Kiesling scored six goals and Greg Hilderbrand added five as the Menlo School boys opened the S&R Sports Cup in Irvine with a 18-11 victory over Los Osos.

The Knights (8-5) lost to Los Alamitos in the quarterfinal, 18-9.

Kiesling finished with 10 goals on the day while goalie Cormac Mulloy made 18 saves.

The Menlo School girls opened the Grizzly Cup at Granite Bay with a pair of victories, 9-1 over Del Oro and 11-8 over Woodcreek.

Nyla Sharma recorded 23 blocks over two games. Sofia Flierl made six steals and five goals. Kenya Cassidy and Erica Fenyo each contributed five assists for Menlo (7-5).

In non league action, the Sacred Heart boys took a 6-0 lead over Campolindo after the first quarter en route to a 15-6 victory.

Luke Johnston scored five goals for the Gators (9-1) while Will Swart added four goals and a pair of assists.

Gavin West added three goals and two assists while Jack Vort scored a goal to go along with three assists.

The Sacred Heart girls beat Campolindo 12-6 as Brienz Lang scored five goals and Natalia Szczerba had six assists to go with one goal. Ashley Penner added three goals and Ella Woodhead had three assists and two goals.

Girls tennis

Alyssa Turenne and Leah Lynch each won their singles matches in Sacred Heart Prep’s 5-2 non league loss at Cupertino, which is undefeated in the SCVAL De Anza Division.
