Update: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated the farmers market would be relocated to Lot 12 each Sunday through September. These relocations may occur intermittently, based on Caltrain work.

Mountain View Farmers’ Market to relocate

The Mountain View City Council is expected to vote to allow the Sunday farmers market to relocate to Lot 12 in downtown Mountain View on select Sundays over the next six months in order to accommodate Caltrain electrification work.

The California Farmers’ Market Association (CFMA) has been using the city-owned lot, which is located behind the Civic Center by Mercy Street, off-and-on for years. The farmers market usually operates out of the downtown Mountain View Caltrain parking lot on Sundays, but switches to Lot 12 during 49ers home games.

But starting last month, the farmers market was relocated in order to accommodate Caltrain, which requires the use of the city’s downtown parking lot as a holding station for buses to transport passengers during testing on its tracks.

Additional testing is planned “over several weekends in April” that will continue to bump the farmers market to Lot 12, according to a report that is being presented to the City Council on April 9. Caltrain’s electrification service tests are expected to continue through September 2024.

City staff are recommending that the City Council allow the farmers market to use Lot 12 for up to 20 Sundays spanning from April 14 to Sept. 29. The farmers market operates from 7:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m.

As of now, the farmers market will be located at Lot 12 on April 14 and April 21, according to Kayla Hayden, CFMA market manager.

  1. Unless something has changed, the Farmer’s Market in DTMV doesn’t open until 9am on Sunday. There are even signs (especially when it’s in Lot 12) to not enter until 9am. When it’s near Caltrain, they seem more relaxed about it. But many stalls aren’t ready for you until close to 9am.
