Brian Blade, Danilo Pérez and John Patitucci perform Oct. 30 at Stanford Live.. Courtesy Stanford Live.

The late jazz composer and saxophonist Wayne Shorter rose to prominence back in the 1950s, went on to play with Miles Davis in the 1960s and started leading his own acclaimed and award-winning quartet in 2000.

Shorter’s influence and work lives on through his collaborators from that quartet – Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci and Brian Blade – who, along with special guest saxophonist Mark Turner (with a noteworthy jazz career in his own right), perform at Stanford this week.

The group seeks to honor Shorter by playing their interpretations of his compositions at the “Legacy of Wayne Shorter” concert.

 Oct. 30, 7:30 p.m., Bing Concert Hall, 327 Lasuen St., Stanford; $15-$72; live.stanford.edu.
