Mountain View police have arrested a 42-year-old Campbell man for allegedly killing a pedestrian in a hit-and-run collision on Sunday morning.

Erick Barrios has been booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of murder, felony hit and run with injury, felony driving under the influence and an outstanding warrant, according to a Mountain View Police Department press release.

Police officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run crash at the corner of Amphitheatre Parkway and Joaquin Road at roughly 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19, the release said. The intersection is near Shoreline Amphitheatre and Google’s visitor center.

When officers arrived, they found a pedestrian in the street with severe injuries and administered first aid until firefighters arrived, the release said. The pedestrian, who the Santa Clara County coroner’s office has not named, died of his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

Police located the fleeing car at 7:30 a.m. “a short distance away from where the collision had occurred” and identified the driver as Barrios, according to police. At the time of his arrest, Barrios had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant from the San Jose Police Department for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid license and a drug possession charge, Mountain View police said.

Barrios is currently being held without bail, with a court date set for Jan. 22, according to county records.
