Soccer title dreams dashed for MV, LA girls

In back-to-back games on the same field, the Mountain View High and Los Altos High girls soccer teams were eliminated from the CCS Girls Soccer Division I Playoffs. Both teams lost close games at Valley Christian on Saturday.

The Spartans lost 1-0 against top-ranked Leigh. After the Spartans left the field, the fourth-seed Eagles were upset by fifth-seed Monta Vista 3-2 in overtime.

Both teams will be returning many strong players for next year, especially Los Altos, which is largely composed of underclassmen.

Lancers reach D2 girls soccer finals

St. Francis girls soccer will play the top-ranked team in the section, Archbishop Mitty, this Saturday for the CCS Girls Soccer Division II Championship. The Lancers advanced by soundly beating top-seed Pioneer 2-0 on Saturday and third-seed Presentation 3-1 on Tuesday.

MV, LA boys soccer eliminated in first round

Simultaneously last Wednesday afternoon, both the Los Altos High and Mountain View High boys soccer teams were knocked out of the CCS Boys Soccer Division I Playoffs by a score of 2-0. The Eagles were upset at home by Oak Grove, while the Spartans were knocked out by host Lincoln, capping a disappointing postseason for public school soccer teams this year.

MV girls hoops finish strong in league, set for CCS

After closing out the El Camino League in second place with a 10-2 record, the 11th-seed Mountain View girls basketball team was scheduled for its first round of the CCS Girls Basketball Division II Playoffs this Wednesday against sixth-seed Wilcox. Results for that game were not available at press time.

MV boys hoops qualify for CCS

Despite posting a 9-17 record overall, and finishing last place in the De Anza League, the Mountain View boys basketball team has qualified for the CCS Boys Basketball Division II Playoffs. The 10th-seed Spartans was scheduled to travel to seventh-seed Westmoor this Wednesday for first round action.

Two Eagles wrestlers make CCS

A tough regular season for the young Los Altos High wrestling team ended on a high note for Matt Sell (171) and Semisi Hoko (275), who qualified for CCS last week. Sell, a talented sophomore, was the Eagles’ lone league champion and was named Outstanding Wrestler for the upper weight classes. The Eagles look to be stronger next year, as the team is loosing only one senior.
