City officials said on Monday that scammers are sending fraudulent emails requesting wire transfers for planning-related fees.

According to officials, the emails have been sent from the address community.development-mountainview.gov@usa.com, which is not affiliated with the city, and are designed to appear as official communications.

The city emphasized that it does not request wire transfers to pay fees. Anyone who receives an email requesting payment should contact the city directly using official contact information to verify its legitimacy.

City officials also urged recipients to watch for common signs of phishing, including requests for payment by wire transfer, payment apps, or cryptocurrency, threats of permit delays if payment is not made immediately, and instructions to communicate only by email.

The city encouraged residents and business owners to use caution and confirm any unexpected payment requests before sending money.
