California Gov. Gavin Newsom has tapped Mountain View’s City Attorney Jennifer Logue to serve as a judge on the Contra Costa County Superior Court. Logue’s last day with the city is expected to occur early next month, according to a Mountain View news release.
Logue, an attorney and litigator, has more than 26 years of legal experience, including 18 years in local government. Logue was hired by Mountain View in 2022 to serve as the city’s head lawyer. Since then, she has represented and advised the City Council, advisory bodies and city departments on a number of initiatives.
These include the Housing Element update, modernization of the City Charter, adoption of the Google Master Plan, Tenant Relocation Assistance Ordinance, Shoreline Area Plan update, Gatekeeper Policy and Nexus Fee Study.
“[Logue] has served the Mountain View community with compassion, integrity, and professionalism,” Mayor Emily Ann Ramos said in the press release. “As City Attorney, she has been a tremendous legal advisor and collaborative leader. We are thankful for Jennifer’s dedication to public service and know that she will excel in this well-deserved appointment to the bench.”
The city attorney is one of three positions appointed by the City Council. The other two are the city manager and city clerk. The Council will soon begin the recruiting process to appoint a new city attorney, according to the release.
Last year, the City Council approved a pay raise for Logue, bringing her yearly salary up to $362,807. Her starting salary in 2022 was $293,000.
Before serving as Mountain View’s city attorney, Logue worked for the Oakland City Attorney’s Office in various positions, including as supervising attorney from 2019-2022, senior attorney from 2012-2019 and deputy city attorney from 2006-2010. She also served as a staff attorney at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 2001-2006. Logue holds a bachelor’s degree from Whittier College and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
“Serving as Mountain View’s City Attorney has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” Logue said in the release. “This is an extraordinary community, and it has been a privilege to work alongside dedicated elected officials, city staff, and residents in service of the public. While I am excited for this next chapter, leaving Mountain View is truly bittersweet.”
