A man was arrested last week after brandishing a loaded gun outside Panera Bread in Mountain View on Friday, Sept. 27, according to the Mountain View Police Department.
The suspect, a 37-year-old man from San Lorenzo, was reportedly pointing a firearm at another person in the parking lot of Panera Bread, located at 1035 El Monte Ave., police said.
Officers received a report about the incident and were dispatched to the parking lot around 6:24 p.m. When they arrived, they found the suspect still holding a gun. They detained him and also spoke with the person who had been threatened, police said.
The victim told the officers that the suspect had been standing behind his car and was acting irrationally. When the victim asked the suspect to move, he allegedly refused and pointed a gun at him. The victim had never spoken to or seen the suspect prior to the altercation, police said.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm that also was unregistered, and for brandishing a concealed weapon in a public place, police said.

I have to say I don’t understand this. Yes, unstable people shouldn’t have access to guns, and if you have one, it should be registered. On the other hand…. how can the weapon be “concealed” if he’s brandishing it? And why would anybody bother to carry around a firearm that isn’t loaded?
If I was going to carry a firearm, it would have to be out in the open, because I don’t have a concealed carry permit. And it would certainly be loaded, otherwise what’s the point? Honest questions, although the scenarios are unlikely in my case.
