A Palo Alto man was arrested for allegedly attacking another person with a pocketknife and stabbing him in the hand at a bus stop outside of Walmart Sunday evening, according to the Mountain View Police Department.

Dispatchers received a call around 7:06 p.m. on March 9, reporting a knife attack at the bus stop at the 600 block of Showers Drive, near Walmart. When police arrived, they found the suspect and victim still at the bus stop. The victim had been stabbed in the hand three times with a pocket knife and was treated by officers for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The suspect, described as a 60-year-old Palo Alto transient, and the victim had been arguing with each other prior to the incident, which led to the knife attack. It is unknown what the suspect and victim were arguing about, police said.

That same evening, a potential witness who was in the area of the assault also reported the theft of two cell phones and a rechargeable battery that had been left unattended. The cell phone theft was unrelated to the stabbing incident, police said.

The suspect in the knife attack was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and a probation violation, police said. He is being held without bail at Santa Clara County Mail Jail, according to county records.
