A kitchen fire broke out in a two-story apartment building Tuesday morning, causing significant structural damage but no reported injuries, according to a press release from the Mountain View Fire Department.
Dispatchers received a 911 call at 8:24 a.m. on April 1, reporting flames coming from an apartment complex at the 1900 block of California Street. Fire crews arrived and saw a fire burning in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment unit. They quickly put out the blaze with a hose line, preventing it from spreading further into the building, the press release said.

Firefighters then cut open the walls and roof of the affected units to make sure the blaze was fully extinguished. They also used thermal imaging cameras to measure heat behind the walls, the press release said.
The residents had evacuated the building before fire crews arrived and there were no reported injuries, although one person was evaluated by Santa Clara County paramedics. The resident declined transportation or treatment at a local hospital, according to the press release.
Three adult residents were displaced from their apartments, as gas and electric utilities to their units were disconnected. The American Red Cross was contacted to coordinate temporary housing for them, the press release said.
Officials have determined that the kitchen was the origin of the fire, although the cause is still under investigation. The estimated damage to the contents and structure of the building is $325,000, according to the fire department release.
