The NASA Ames Fire Department is conducting aircraft firefighting training on Moffett Federal Airfield this week.

The training, which began yesterday, is scheduled to continue through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and involves the use of a propane-fueled aircraft fire simulator, according to a NASA Ames press release.

The aircraft simulator will not produce a lot of smoke during the controlled fires, but flames may be visible to drivers on U.S. Highway 101, the press release said. The training is meant to prepare first responders for different firefighting scenarios.

The aircraft fire simulator has been contracted from the Emergency Council of Menlo Park, according to the press release.
