KMVT offers video valentines
Looking for a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift? Try television. A camera crew from Mountain View’s cable access station KMVT will appear at downtown restaurants this week to record “Video Valentines” — personal messages ranging from 10 to 60 seconds.
For $35 (or $25 for children under 17), KMVT staff will coach participants, who then receive an edited DVD version of the message with music, text and decorative borders. Senders can also choose to broadcast their message on Channel 15 on Valentine’s Day.
Those hoping to record a message can find the crew at Don Giovanni restaurant on Thursday, Feb. 9, from 12-2 p.m.; St. Stephens Green on Thursday, 5-8 p.m.; Michael’s at Shoreline on Friday, 12-2 p.m.; and the Tied House on Friday, 6-8 p.m. Recording sessions will also be available at the studio. Foothill celebrates Black History Month
Guest lectures, performing arts and other cultural activities are filling the month of February at Foothill College, in honor of Black History Month.
Remaining lectures, all at noon and with free admission, include “Am I ready to be my brother’s keeper?” on Feb. 15; “The ‘N’ Word: A message in madness” on Feb. 16; and “Social and personal responsibility” on Feb. 21.
Then, on Feb. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Eighth Annual African Achievers Awards ceremony will take place, recognizing outstanding scholars and leaders at Foothill and featuring guest speaker Marc Spears, a Foothill alum who is a sports columnist for The Denver Post.
A gospel concert, “Make a Joyful Noise,” will take place on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. — to purchase tickets, call (650) 949-7360. Finally, the month will come to a close with a presentation on educational scholarships at noon on Feb. 28.
