Bernice Myrtle Capps

Bernice Myrtle Capps, a longtime resident of Mountain View originally hailing from Texas, died Thursday morning, Feb. 16, in Palo Alto. She was 84.

Capps lived most of her life in Port Arthur, Texas, where she worked at The Texas Company and also met her future husband, the Rev. George Capps. She worked several years at a Port Arthur grocery store as a meat cutter and then became a hair stylist. She had her own beauty shop in her home for many years.

Most of the last 20 years of her life were spent in California, living first in Mountain View and later with her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Emanuel DiMiceli, in Palo Alto. For as long as she was able, she attended ballroom dances at several area senior citizens centers.

Capps is survived by her daughters, Sue and Diane, and numerous members of the extended family both here and in Texas.

In accordance with her wishes, Capps’ body was donated to the Stanford University School of Medicine Willed Body Program. A memorial service is being planned at Asbury United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas, although details are not yet available.
