Landels receives academic award
State Superintendent Jack O’Connell announced last week that 310 California schools won the 2005-06 Title I academic achievement award, among them Landels Elementary in Mountain View.Landels was one of five schools recognized in Santa Clara County. This is Landels’ first year of being recognized for this achievement. The award recognizes improving student achievement and test scores at schools with a significant population of students with disadvantaged backgrounds. There are nearly 5,900 Title I schools in California, and to qualify for the award, the school’s socio-economically disadvantaged students had to make huge strides in their test score growth.
“Landels, with a diverse student body, has demonstrated that it does an excellent job of educating all students. We are excited,” said Jerry Davis, the school’s interim principal.
