Third, fourth, and fifth graders from all schools in Mountain View will compete in Olympics in Mountain View, a track and field event this weekend.
“It’s very exciting to have the recreation department, police department and school district coming together to create this event that will benefit children and the community,” said volunteer Vicki Schultz. The event is a prelude to other children’s activities that these organizations will be co-producing, Schultz added.
“All of these events are important because they create civic pride, they get kids from other schools to know each other, and they’re healthy.”
The track events range from the 50-meter dash to a 400-meter run, and field events include the long jump, rope jumping and basketball free throws.
Olympics in Mountain View will take place this Sunday, June 4, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Mountain View High School track, 3535 Truman Ave. Registration continues up to the event. Forms are available at the event, at public elementary schools in Mountain View, and at http://olympicsinmountainview.org.
