A white van caught fire at a Mountain View intersection Thursday morning, prompting traffic diversions and an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
Emergency responders received a call at 8:34 a.m. reporting a vehicle fire in the area of El Camino Real and The Americana, according to fire department spokesperson Robert Maitland. The van had been heading south on The Americana, next to Sutter Health’s Mountain View Center. The area is just past the State Highway 85 interchange, near the Sunnyvale border.
One Mountain View fire engine was deployed to the scene and crews extinguished the flames at 8:46 a.m., Maitland said. No injuries were reported, he added.
Unlike a structure fire, which typically requires three engines, two truck companies, an urban search and rescue team and two battalion chiefs, vehicle fires usually require less response, Maitland said.
During Thursday’s incident, Mountain View police officers also responded and provided traffic control until the scene was formally cleared at 12:09 p.m.
