Local residents who died recently include:

Sanford Lawrence Cascade, 74, a longtime resident of Palo Alto who was a devoted brother, uncle and great-uncle and a supporter of Jewish charitable causes, died on July 25, 2026.

Dr. Thomas J. “Tom” Fiene, 91, a longtime Palo Alto resident who was a physician, Stanford clinical professor and advocate for underserved patients, who practiced at Menlo Medical Clinic for 32 years and volunteered at the Stanford Pacific Free Clinic, was known for his compassion, diagnostic skill and devotion to family. He died on July 18, 2026.

Jane Edwards Williams, 81, a Menlo Park resident who was a pediatric nurse at Stanford Hospital and Kaiser Redwood City before becoming a licensed marriage and family therapist, who helped thousands of patients and clients during her career, was known for her empathy, love of travel and devotion to family. She died on July 11, 2026.

Nancy Jordan Fiene, 92, a longtime Palo Alto resident who was a beloved piano teacher, accomplished organist and dedicated arts docent, who taught generations of young musicians and served her community through numerous civic and cultural organizations, was known for her curiosity, boundless energy, love of nature and devotion to family. She died on July 18, 2026.

Carolyn Tucher, 88, a longtime Palo Alto resident who served eight years on the Palo Alto school board, co-founded the Palo Alto Art Center’s Cultural Kaleidoscope program, and was known for building bridges between Palo Alto and East Palo Alto through education and the arts, was a dedicated community leader, avid hiker and lifelong lover of Colorado’s mountains and wildflowers. She died on June 18, 2026.
