A threat was made against a school in Los Altos on Tuesday morning, with police later finding it a hoax.
The Los Altos Police Department said that at 11:37 a.m., Los Altos High School administrators learned that someone made a threat against the school through a crisis center’s online chat platform.
Police investigated and later concluded that it was a non-credible threat “due to multiple factors, including the nature of the content and communications, messages to other local high schools, and the originating IP address.”
The police department warned that it takes all threats seriously and is committed to “ensuring the safety and security of our schools and community.”
There were no further details about the threat.
On Tuesday, at least six Bay Area schools were locked down because of what were found to be also unsubstantiated threats. Two high schools in Palo Alto were placed on lockdowns, as were Cupertino High School, Piedmont Middle School, Piedmont High School, and Millennium High School.
The threats against the high schools in Palo Alto were seen online. Threats were also received at Cupertino High School and in Piedmont, where three schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution, police said.
