Menlo-Atherton’s defense has turned in some pretty extreme performances so far this season.

After allowing 100 points in two losses to start the season, M-A pitched a shutout Saturday, beating Pleasant Valley of Chico 34-0 in an Honor Bowl football matchup at Liberty High in Brentwood.

“This was what the doctor ordered for us,” M-A coach Chris Saunders said.”We put a lot of time and preparation into stopping the run.”

“He’s our anchor up front, our most experienced defensive lineman,” Saunders said. “He played great, splitting double-teams.”

The linebacking corps of Andrew Buck, Sione Vaka and Sosaia Pongi was in on many tackles.

On offense, Matt MacLeod threw three touchdown passes to Jalen Moss, giving the duo seven TD connections over the last two weeks.

“A special talent,” Saunders said of Moss. “He made plays after the catch, running with the ball.”

Dane Fifita and Sherrod Smith added rushing touchdowns.
