Menlo School took round one of its West Bay Athletic League girls volleyball rivalry from Sacred Heart Prep on Thursday to take over sole possession of first place in the Foothill Division.
Menlo swept the home match 25-14, 26-24, 25-19 as senior Hanna Hoffman recorded a team-high 14 kills on a hitting percentage of .407. She added 16 assists and 12 digs.

Menlo (20-5, 5-0) opened the first set winning 13 of the first 15 points. In the second set, Sacred Heart Prep took a 22-21 lead on a combined block from Mia Radeff and Sara Alnajjar.
Menlo scored the next three points before the Gators (16-2, 4-1) tied it on a kill from Tatum Baker. Menlo then closed out the second set.
Sacred Heart Prep also took a 15-14 edge in the third set before Menlo scored the next four points, including an ace from Hallie MacDonald, who had 14 digs, and a Hoffman kill.
Zoe Gregory added 26 assists and Sharon Nejad had 13 kills on .385 hitting for the Knights, who play Burlingame as part of homecoming weekend on Friday night.
Sophomore Isabelle Marco led SHP with seven kills. Senior Millie Muir recorded 15 assists and 14 digs.
Sacred Heart Prep is at home Tuesday against current SCVAL De Anza Division leader Los Gatos on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Los Gatos beat Gunn in four sets 25-17, 25-16, 23-25, 25-16. The Titans (8-12, 1-5) got solid back row play from libero Micaela Leong.
Also in the SCVAL, Palo Alto won at home, beating Homestead 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.
Los Altos beat visiting Monta Vista 18-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-9, 15-7 in another SCVAL match. The Eagles (11-9, 3-3) have won two in a row since a four-match losing streak.

Girls water polo
Serafina Cortez scored the go-ahead goal early in the fourth period and Castilleja went on to beat host Gunn 9-7 in a SCVAL De Anza Division match Thursday.
Nina Albers put Gunn ahead 6-5 with 1:50 remaining to play in the third period. Caitlyn Chau tied it for Castilleja in the final minute.
Cortez’s goal sparked a three-goal rally, with Sydney Lowell, who led the team with five goals, and Gabby Lewis also scoring.
Kenza Ashworth led Gunn with three goals. Both goalies, Castilleja’s Sutchir Ofori-Nyako and Gunn’s Jayden Kratt, recorded 11 saves.
Neither team led by more than two goals until the Gators took a 9-6 edge with 1:26 left in the contest.
Girls golf
Lauren Sung earned medalist honors with a round of 36 Thursday at Baylands Golf Links and Palo Alto beat Gunn 198-227 in a SCVAL match.
Sydney Sung followed with a 37 and both Allyson Lee and Bridget O’Keefe each recorded a 39.
Alanna Lee led Gunn with a 43.
In the WBAL, Mischa Chaikovsky shot a 46 but Sacred Heart Prep fell to co-leader Harker 228-257 at Sharon Heights Golf and Country Ckub.
Girls tennis

Andra Braicu, Brynn Brady and Kate Hsia each won their singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores and Menlo beat Notre Dame Belmont 7-0 in a WBAL match Thursday.
Elsewhere, Crystal Springs Uplands beat Sacred Heart Prep 6-1. Natalie Dias, at No. 1 singles, won for the Gators.
In the PAL Bay Division, the No. 1 doubles team of Holly Cheung and Sofia Cadoret led Menlo-Atherton to a 7-0 win over Half Moon Bay. Meen Alvi won at No. 4 singles.
