Playing teams from the West Catholic Athletic League is nothing new for the Sacred Heart Prep boys basketball team. Playing St. Francis, though, is a rare event.
SHP played the Lancers for the second time ever Friday night and the first since a March 2015 Central Coast Section Open Division loss.
Aidan Braccia scored 23 points and SHP coach Tony Martinelli worked in his football players as the Gators beat St. Francis 74-61 as part of the DJ Frandsen Memorial Tournament hosted by Bellarmine Prep.

Aidan Braccia scores two of his game-high 23 points.
SHP (4-0) meets the host Bells Saturday at 7:30 p.m. St. Francis (4-1), which opened its season with four wins, plays Hillsdale at 6 p.m.
Braccia, who hit four of the team’s nine 3-pointers, helped the Gators get off to a quick start. St. Francis made a few runs during the contest which SHP was able to handle.
Emmer Nichols and Kevin Carney also recorded double-digit scoring games. Nichols, also the team’s leading rebounder, scored 15 points and Carney, who had a pair of 3-pointers, added all 14 of his points in the first half.
RJ Stephens and Jake York, who helped SHP win a state football title over the weekend, each played enough to contribute to the scoring.
Tim Netane led St. Francis with 14 points. Brylan Lundy added 11.
In another non-league contest, host Sequoia rallied from a first-half deficit to beat Priory 58-53. Tayo Sobomehin scored 22 points for Priory.
In girls basketball action, Sacred Heart Prep received a forfeit win at the Steve Geramoni Invitational over El Cerrito because of a scheduling conflict. The Gators (2-6) play for the consolation title at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Notre Dame Belmont.
In other non-league girls games, Castilleja topped San Jose 44-16 and Menlo-Atherton fell to host Harker, 48-39.
