Lucas Vogel hit a key 3-pointer in the final minute of play to help Menlo School rally to a 48-46 victory at Priory in a West Bay Athletic League boys basketball contest Thursday night.

Vogel finished with 11 points for the Knights (9-3, 2-0), who host The King’s Academy (8-6, 3-1) on Friday. TKA dropped an 81-47 decision at Sacred Heart Prep (10-2, 3-0) on Thursday.

Priory sophomore Steve Emeneke came up with a big block in the first minute of the contest that set the tone for much of the first quarter. Rostand Olama Abanda hit a 3-pointer late in the opening quarter to put Priory ahead 11-4.

Menlo opened strong in the third quarter, erasing a five-point halftime deficit in the first minute. The Knights took their first lead when Will Eggemeier, who scored 13 points, hit a short jumper and ensuing free throw for a 31-30 edge.

Oliver Conn, who came up with some big rebounds in the first half, tied the game for Priory at 42, making one of two free throws with 6:02 remaining to play.

Eggemeier put Menlo ahead for good with a 3-pointer about a minute later.

Both teams turned up their defensive pressure, keeping score low. Priory pulled to within 45-44 when Emeneke scored after getting a nice inside pass from Tayo Sobomehin with 1:34 to play.

Vogel hit his 3-pointer moments later and Menlo held on. Daniel Solomon finished with a game-high 17 points, which included four 3-pointers for Menlo.

Priory, which had lost to Sacred Heart Prep by three points two days before, was led by Rehan Parwani, who also made four 3-pointers. Parwani scored 15 points while Emeneke finished with 11.

Sacred Heart Prep had an easier time of it in beating The King’s Academy by 34 points.

The Gators led by 11 after three quarters and then outscored TKA 26-3 in the fourth period.

The two teams met for the Central Coast Section Division IV championship last June 12, with SHP winning that game 62-48.

Sam Norris scored 16 points, one of four SHP players to reach double figures. He was matched by Aidan Braccia. Emmer Nichols added 15 points and Kevin Carney scored 13.

There’s another full slate of WBAL games Friday night. In addition to TKA at Menlo, Pinewood hosts Harker, Priory hosts Crystal Springs Uplands and Eastside Prep visits Sacred Heart Prep.

All four sites will also host a girls game, with Harker at SHP, Norte Dame Belmont at Pinewood, CSUS at Priory and TKA at Menlo.

In addition, Castilleja plays at Eastside Prep.
