Sophomore Alessandro Velazquez scored twice and Menlo School beat Sacred Heart Prep 3-0 in a West Bay Athletic League boys soccer match Friday.
Daniel Louie also scored for the Knights (9-3-2, 7-1), who still technically shares first place with SHP (9-5-1, 7-2) although playing one fewer match to date.
Harker (11-1-1, 6-1) is also in the mix after beating The King’s Academy 3-0 Friday. Harker’s lone loss this season was to Menlo.
Menlo won its seventh straight since losing at SHP on Jan. 14.
“Clearly Alessandro has been a huge presence for us all year and came through huge again today,” Menlo coach Marc Kerrest said. “But up and down the lineup, to a man, the boys really performed well.”
Velazquez delivered his first goal four minutes into the match. Louie added a goal midway through the first half on a feed from fellow senior Emilio Velten-Lomelin.
Velazquez scored again, this time with an assist from sophomore Jacob Lee.
Senior goalie Colin Thomas and the Knights defense held off a late charge by the Gators. Thomas made three big saves in the final minutes.

In the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division, Nadav Sternheim scored twice in helping third place Palo Alto (7-3-4, 3-2-3) beat second place Mountain View (9-4-3, 4-2-3), 3-2, on Friday night and move closer to the top of the division standings.
First place Santa Clara (11-4-3, 7-1-2) also lost, dropping a 2-1 decision to Homestead. Los Altos (4-6-4, 3-3-2) kept pace with the Vikings, beating Los Gatos 2-1.
Rhys Foote also scored for the Vikings while Jaron Majors and Joshua Ramos each added an assist. Goalie Isaac Kirby recorded six saves for the victory.
Palo Alto plays at home Wednesday against Santa Clara, Los Altos is at Homestead and Mountain View has the bye.
Braden Harrison and Oscar Melchor scored for Los Altos in the win over Los Gatos. Sam Bryan and Zaid Issa had the assists.

In the Peninsula Athletic League, Menlo-Atherton beat San Mateo 3-0 and Woodside fell to Aragon 3-1.
Adam Yusuf scored for the Wildcats (9-6-1, 3-4-1).
Rishi Siddharth recorded a goal and an assist in M-A’s win over the Bearcats. Tiziano Bolanos had two assists.
Kieran Kunihiro and Toivo Zair each added a goal for M-A (4-6-4, 3-3-2), which meets first place Burlingame on Wednesday.
Girls soccer
Mountain View (16-0-1, 10-0) moved a step closer to clinching the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division title with a 3-0 victory over Palo Alto (5-9-3, 3-4-2) on Friday.
Los Altos (10-4-2, 6-2-1) has taken a secure hold on second place, beating Los Gatos 5-0.
The Eagles have won six straight since losing at Gunn on Jan. 12 and have outscored their opponents by a 23-4 margin over that span.
Los Altos meets Homestead on Wednesday and Palo Alto plays Santa Clara. Mountain View has the bye.
