A two-alarm structure fire caused about $250,000 in damage to an unoccupied house in Mountain View early Sunday morning, the Mountain View Fire Department reported today.

Fire investigators continue to probe what caused the blaze at 448 Mariposa Ave., which was reported at 12:22 a.m., said Mountain View Fire Department spokesman Lynn Brown. He added that so far the fire does not look suspicious.

No one was injured in the blaze, though a recently signed tenant who had yet to move in will most likely have to find another home.

It took firefighters nearly an hour to bring the fire under control, because the older home contained Latin walls, which are harder to break through then average plaster walls, Brown said

Also, the original call came to the Mountain View Police Department, which arrived on scene first, with firefighters trailing some 12 minutes behind.

According to Brown, the fire began in the basement of the building and spread up to the attic. It was under control at about 1:40 a.m.

Fire departments from Palo Alto and Moffett Field, as well as the Santa Clara County Fire Department, assisted the Mountain View department in fighting the fire.
