Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band performs Feb. 19 at Stanford Live. Courtesy Jasz Garrett/Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band.

The Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band is an ensemble of 16 Indigenous and Native musicians from across the Americas. The group is a celebration of Indigenous voices in jazz, performing new works, standards and reimagined traditionals to honor musicians past and present. The band represents a diverse range of Indigenous cultures and identities. Keefe, the group’s director, is an acclaimed Native American jazz vocalist, activist, performer and educator whose most recent recording project pays tribute to the legacy of Coeur d’Alene jazz musician Mildred Bailey.

“Together, we represent a long-silenced, long-forgotten chapter of jazz history: the participation, contribution, innovation, and legacy of Indigenous jazz musicians,” the ensemble’s website states. Catch the big band in action at Stanford this week.

Feb. 19, 7:30 p.m., Bing Concert Hall, 327 Lasuen St., Stanford; $16-$68; live.stanford.edu.
