A Mountain View man was shot and left lying on the street early Saturday morning, and a suspect has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, according to a statement from the Mountain View Police Department.
Police received a call around 2:05 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, reporting that a man had been shot and was lying on the ground on the 400 block of Sierra Vista Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a 23-year-old man with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition, police said.
The suspect fled before officers arrived, but police later identified the shooter as Hector Christopher Chavez, a 24-year-old East Palo Alto resident. With the assistance of the San Mateo County SWAT Team, detectives located and arrested Chavez at the 2700 block of Fordham Street in East Palo Alto, according to the statement.
Chavez was booked into Santa Clara County jail under suspicion of attempted murder. There are no other suspects at this time, police said.
The police are not releasing the victim’s name at this time.
The case is still under investigation and police are asking anyone who may have camera footage or additional information about the incident to contact Det. Guillermo De Lira at guillermo.delira@mountainview.gov.

Second attempted murder in a week. Mountain View is becoming increasingly violent.
Please note that the individual that is being charged with attempted murder is from East Palo Alto not Mountain View. Crime is escalating everywhere. Not just in Mountain View.
