A driver in a stolen vehicle evaded arrest after leading police officers on a high-speed chase in Mountain View Monday morning that caused two collisions but no injuries, according to the Mountain View Police Department.

The vehicle, a 2018 Honda Accord, was reported stolen from outside a Sunnyvale residence on Monday, Oct. 6, according to Sunnyvale Capt. Dzanh Le.

Around 8:20 a.m., Mountain View police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from Sunnyvale in the area of San Antonio Road and Bayshore Parkway. Police officers attempted to stop the car at the intersection of San Antonio Road and Middlefield Road, but the suspect fled the scene, said Mountain View police spokesperson Monica Leon.

Mountain View police then pursued the driver, who continued to evade law enforcement officers, Leon said. During the pursuit, the Honda driver struck another vehicle at the intersection of San Antonio Road and Nita Avenue. The driver also hit a police patrol vehicle, causing minor damage to the front bumper, Leon said.

Mountain View resident Sean Doyle witnessed the high-speed chase while driving north on Shoreline Boulevard around 8:40 a.m., he said. Doyle’s vehicle dashboard camera recorded a black Honda blowing through the California Street intersection on Shoreline Boulevard with three police cars pursuing it a few moments later, alerting drivers with sirens and flashing lights.

Mountain View police followed the stolen vehicle on Highway 237, which goes through Sunnyvale, Le said, adding that he was not aware of the Honda being pursued on any Sunnyvale surface streets.

The police pursuit was terminated on Highway 237 heading east, and the stolen vehicle was recovered, according to Leon, who did not specify when or how the vehicle was recovered. No suspects were taken into custody and the case remains open to identify the driver, Leon said on Wednesday.
