The Shoreline Lake café in Mountain View is planning to operate as a food truck with outdoor dining while its permanent space and the adjacent boathouse are undergoing a $14.8 million renovation project next year.
The city plans to temporarily waive rental payments for the café, up to $200,000, during the year-long construction project. It also plans to allow Shoreline Shores, which operates the café and boathouse, to use six parking spaces for the food truck, a kitchen prep space and a storage container, as well as allocating 1,700 square feet for a tented outdoor dining area.
The Mountain View City Council will vote on the changes at a Tuesday, Oct. 14, council meeting.
The pop-up kitchen will help mitigate the impacts of the café closure, according to the council report. Shoreline Shores would otherwise lose trained staff and experience disruption with its catering and event operations.
Currently, Shoreline Shores has a percentage lease with the city, in which it owes 8% of gross receipts on food service and 10% on all other gross revenue. Last year, the city collected $298,000 in rent, the report said. The modified lease will allow Shoreline Shores to retain all revenue associated with the food truck while the construction project is underway.
The Shoreline boathouse and rental activities will remain open to the public during construction, according to the council report.
