A woman was sexually assaulted and robbed in Mountain View while walking by herself early Sunday morning, according to the Mountain View Police Department.

The incident occurred around 5:15 a.m. in the area of Phyllis Avenue and Pamela Drive.

A person passing by witnessed the assault, and police are asking this person to come forward with any information about the incident.

According to police, the assailant approached the victim from behind and grabbed her, then pointed a handgun at her. He pulled her into the front yard of a residence, which was dark and surrounded by shrubbery, where he assaulted her and took her cash. He then released the victim.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, around 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a muscular medium-sized build, dark and clear complexion, thick eyebrows and thick lips. He was wearing a gray T-shirt, black “Ben Davis”-style work pants, black Converse tennis shoes and rubber bands around the bottom of both pant legs. He spoke both Spanish and English.

Police say the witness to the assault peered into the bushes but did not intervene. He is described as a tall white male, around 19 or 20 years old, with short blond hair. He was wearing a black sweatshirt and pants.
