Mountain View and Sunnyvale police arrested four people for allegedly selling hallucinogenic drugs at a psychedelic rock concert at Shoreline Amphitheatre last week.
Police spokesperson Liz Wylie said the two departments sent seven undercover officers to the Phish show on Wednesday, Aug. 5, and “They spent their time looking to buy drugs.” The officers arrested four people on charges of selling ecstasy, psilocybin (also known as “magic mushrooms”) and marijuana.
Drug dealers “follow these Phish concerts like crazy. We cater to the concert,” Wylie said, explaining how different Shoreline shows involve different kinds of police work.
Police arrested Hunter Rosner, 27, of Costa Mesa and Kylie Lewis, 22, of Olympia, Wash. for allegedly selling mushrooms. They also arrested William Welden, 22, of San Rafael for allegedly selling marijuana and Sarah Weiss, 26, of Lincoln, Neb. for allegedly selling ecstasy and having LSD and concentrated cannabis in her possession.
None of the suspects were selling together, Wylie said. All were booked in San Jose.

I don’t know that busting 4 kids with drugs in a Phish parking lot is really what I would classify as a ‘sting’. It’s more like shooting fish in a barrel (no pun intended). The fact that they only brought in 4 kids is actually a testament to A) how well behaved Phish fans are in general and B) what a waste of time and money sending undercover cops into a concert parking lot is. Isn’t there some actual violent crime going on around San Jose that could use those resources?

Don’t you people realize the druggies ARE the people committing the most of the so-called “real crimes”? And the article says the undercover officers did the sting – isn’t that the JOB of undercover officers? To bust drug dealers? Do you people expect them to sit back and ALLOW dealers from Nebraska, Washington, etc. to come into our nice city and deal candy-like drugs to our kids? And do any of you know how long it takes to actually make and process one arrest? Four arrests is not bad at all given the amount of time they had. Actually, psychedelics like marijuana, LSD, psilocybin and ecstasy are in no way associated with any crime at all, other than the bogus consensual crime of using them. When people talk about the evils of “drugs,” they’re referring to unconscious, self-destructive behavior. The pro-psychedelic position is the exact opposite; psychedelics are mind-expanding and deprogramming.
More generally, every major study of the Drug War conducted over the last 100 years has concluded that that the effects of drug prohibition are worse than the drugs they seek to control. Phish fans are some of the most progressive, loving and conscientious people on the planet, and there is no history of problems with any of the drugs for which people were busted — drugs that are vastly safer and far more useful than either alcohol or tobacco.

I certainly don’t hope for anyone to be sick or demented. If you do a little research, I think you’ll find that it is the consensual crime laws like those against (some) drugs that are sick and demented…and un-American.
I am glad to see that the majority of folks here have their mind right. There is no reason to bust these kids other than the fact that we have these dumb laws that cops just follow,(but don’t believe in), because its their job. How long we have till enough people decide that this war on drugs is a waste of time, a NEVER ENDING witch hunt.

If they only busted 4 people with 7 undercover officers then the officers were retarded. I went to the concert and just walking from the parking lot to the venue I could have arrested 50 people just for what I saw them visibly doing, what kind of “undercover” are the local police practicing????????????

Four people out of approximately 20,000 is 0.0002%. Why is this news? What a bunch of well behaved kids. And non-kids. I am a 50 year old long time homeowner and fine upstanding member of the Mountain View community and I was there too.
The drugs mentioned in the bust should be legalized anyhow. I don’t know of any violent episodes while under the influence of those drugs. Drive-by shootings, methamphetamine manufacturing, crimes against women and children, burglary, auto theft…am I to assume the police have no other criminals to chase in Mountain View?
Frankly, with the economy in the tank right now, I’m surprised anyone can afford the drugs!

I think we need to evaluate the use of resources in our community. 7 cops making 4 arrests at an event of 20,000 is not a wise choice of allocating MY TAX DOLLARS.
