A Mountain View resident was arrested on suspicion of carjacking after he allegedly threatened a person with a pocketknife and drove off with the victim’s vehicle Monday evening, according to the Mountain View Police Department.
Dispatchers received a call around 8:15 p.m. on Feb. 3, reporting a stolen vehicle at the 800 block of Church Street in downtown Mountain View. When police arrived, the victim told officers that he was approached by a man who threatened him with a pocketknife and demanded the keys to his vehicle. The suspect then drove off in the vehicle even though it had a flat tire, police said.
Around 8:36 p.m. that same evening, dispatchers received a report of suspicious activity at the 200 block of E. Dana Street. A witness said there was a vehicle with a flat tire near his residence. Officers located the vehicle, which was the same one that had been reported stolen earlier in the evening, police said.
Officers located the suspect near the stolen vehicle. He was arrested on suspicion of carjacking, brandishing a weapon and for a parole violation, police said.
The suspect was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail without bail, according to county records.
