A 46-year-old Belmont man died in Mountain View early Monday morning after colliding with a wall at the intersection of State Highway 85 and Central Expressway.

At about 3 a.m. April 27, Mountain View police responded to a solo vehicle crash at the major junction, according to a press release. Officers found a man alone in a black SUV, which had run into a wall. Though police officers and fire department personnel provided medical treatment, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.  

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office told the Voice that the man’s identity had not yet been confirmed.

The police department announced at 4:55 a.m. Monday that all eastbound lanes of Central Expressway between Castro Street and the Highway 85 off-ramp had been shut down. At 9:15 a.m., police announced that the roadway had reopened. 

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, the press release said.
