Los Altos boys soccer wins league championship

After defeating Wilcox on Monday evening, the Los Altos boys’ soccer team clinched the El Camino Division championship, narrowly edging highly favored Los Gatos to claim the title.

This is the first title in 14 years for the boys’ soccer program. Los Altos ended the league season with an impressive 9-2-1 record. Los Gatos ended at 8-1-3.

MV girls soccer wins CCS opener

The opening CCS game went well for the Lady Spartans Tuesday night, with the team overcoming Alisal High School — and a steady 20 mph wind — to win 1-0. Next up for Mountain View: No. 1 seed Leigh on Saturday.

LA boys basketball breaks losing streak

Los Altos boys’ hoopsters broke a four-game losing streak in their win over Monta Vista on Feb. 10.

It has been an up-and-down season for the Eagles, but they hope to finish up the season on a positive note when they play Saratoga and Lynbrook. If Los Altos can win its two remaining contests, the team can finish its league record at .500.

Lancers boys end disappointing basketball season

St. Francis lost its last two league games of the season the way it has lost many of its games this year: by a close margin. The Lancers were defeated 48-40 by Archbishop Mitty on Wednesday, Feb. 8, and 55-49 by Sacred Heart Cathedral on Saturday, Feb. 11. The team ended up with a 4-11 record in league.

MV girls hoopsters end winning streak

After compiling an impressive seven-game winning streak, the Lady Spartans were defeated by Cupertino 51-40 on Feb. 10.

Mountain View currently sits in second place, one-half game behind Fremont. The Spartans will need to win at least one of its last two league games this week to have a chance to claim the league title. Mountain View will host Lynbrook on Tuesday and will end the year with a road game at Monta Vista.
