The Palo Alto girls golf team performed well enough Monday to qualify for the state tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.

Senior Sydney Sung fired a 2-over 74 to finish fourth in helping Palo Alto score 403, good for third behind Valley Christian’s 391 and Granite Bay’s 402, at the NCGA/CIF NorCal Regional at Berkeley Country Club.
Los Altos sisters Sophie Thai (76) and Camille Thai (77) also advance to the state tournament as individuals. Los Altos tied for fifth with a 429.
Lauren Song shot a 6-over 78, tying for 17th with Valley Christian’s Cynthia Zhang. Bridget O’Keefe and Alexa Pineda each shot an 80 to place 28th and 29th. Allyson Lee also scored for the Vikings.
Maddie Woo, Kara Chou and Angie Cheng also scored for Los Altos.
Castilleja freshman Norah Yang finished 44th overall in the field of 83.
Girls tennis
Palo Alto (11-8) and Gunn (15-6) each won home matches Monday to advance into Tuesday’s second round.
Palo Alto swept Los Gatos 7-0 and will meet No. 3 Francis at Cuesta Park in Mountain View in a 2 p.m. match Tuesday.
Gunn took care of Santa Catalina 6-1 and will host No. 7 Mountain View (8-6), also at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Gunn’s No. 1 singles player Aoi Kunimoto continued her strong play with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. That comes on the heels of winning the SCVAL El Camino Division singles title.
Gunn also got singles wins from Mahima Agrawal and Kailani Baker-Matsuoka as well as sweeping the three doubles matches.
In other Tuesday afternoon matches, No. 6 Los Altos hosts Burlingame, No. 2 Menlo plays at home against Westmont and Menlo-Atherton hosts Carlmont.
Burlingame beat Aptos 7-0, Westmont beat Pacific Grove 5-2 and Carlmont topped Leland 5-2.
