A Frito-Lay truck fell on Oregon Expressway after a collision with a SUV that sent one person to the hospital and backed up traffic on the popular thoroughfare in Palo Alto early Tuesday morning.
The truck driver, in his 50s, was taken to Stanford Hospital for shoulder and neck pain, according to Jairo Cabrera, a district manager for Frito-Lay who says he spoke to Palo Alto police about the incident Tuesday morning.
Around 5:50 a.m., the driver of a purple Lexus SUV heading west on Middlefield Road at Oregon Expressway ran a red light and hit the truck, which was heading north, according to Cabrera.
The truck landed on its side and two passersby helped its driver get up, Cabrera said. The large vehicle sustained damage to its roof, drive shaft and right side, which Cabrera added was minimal and repairable.
“Our main concern was making sure our driver was OK,” Cabrera said.
The truck was less than a mile from its delivery destination on Middlefield Road.
The Frito-Lay driver is a Bay Area resident who has worked with the company for five years, Cabrera said.
Police blocked off one lane of traffic on westbound Middlefield Road, which was estimated to reopen around 8:30 a.m., the department wrote on social media. A post at 9:20 a.m. from the department confirmed the road had reopened Tuesday morning.
